geesh MOCCA
Not that I’d ever entertain the idea to table at MOCCA ($400 for a table? pass) but they’re now on the same weekend as Stumptown. Another high-profile indie show, which has unwittingly scheduled their show opposite to SPACE for the past couple of years. It doesn’t affect foot traffic (mostly local indie enthusiasts) but what it does do is two things: screw over each other for ‘bigger names’ and screw up a creator/publisher’s tour schedule.
I’ve been at indie shows where it was overwhelmingly all zines and minis. Folks who’s stuff is rough around the edges, learning how to present their stuff, etc. They’re cool, don’t get me wrong. I’m trying to be kind here but a whole row of that stuff with no buffer will send a potential comic reader out the door. …and it’s happened.
