no more shall we part. (acrylic on canvas)
Had a great time at the Creative Evolutions show last night thrown by Art Party Columbus. It was my first time in the Skylab space downtown. Definitely not the mental picture I had of Skylab. It’s been name-dropped so many times, I pictured a nice but small gallery space on the fifth floor. Urban-industrial looking with decals on the entry way. The place had sort of a musty trapped in time shanty appeal to it. Like some of the run-down dive bars I’ve been to on campus. The elevator was a trip, probably been running since the 50’s, with a random old school iron laying on the floor. Which no doubt, wasn’t ‘old school’ when it was left in the elevator. The building is one of the few buildings left untouched by all the remodeling and construction going on. Walls painted over multiple times.
Once we stepped foot inside the gallery, there was a crazy good spread of food when you walked in. A relative (?) of someone playing piano in the corner. Good times, good people. Nice flow of people walking through the space. I skipped the wine and went for the salty caramel custard. The volunteers were made up like zombies. We took a break from it and walked down. Someone’s tie-rod broke snapping their brake line on a slumbering downtown street. Zombie-girl directing traffic as three guys try to pop the tire off. (Why?) Which had the valets next door freaking out.
We didn’t stay long enough to see who won the raffle. Yup there was a raffle. All and all, an awesome time.
